Customer Reviews

I am new to the guitar but not a total beginner in music and was thrilled all that you get in the package. Both the guitar and amp are more than adequate as a practice rig for a beginner. I am impressed that the hardware to adjust the truss and string action were included. The guitar has a beautiful sunburst finish with reddish brown pickguard. Everything was functional and easy to use, although I will say the strap is a little loose and the stand is a little light, but what more can you expect for $149. The small amp gets pretty buzzy and noisy around 7-8, but if you keep the volume below blasting, the sound quality is good enough. Overall I think this is a good starter kit.The body seems to be great, the neck and frets are good; the only bad part is the head, it's rough and could have been finished way better, not well sanded , rough spots around the edge and not much finish - no gloss to it at all.

There is no sense in not being honest, for how much you end up paying, you will feel very satisfied with this product. I've been abusing this gear for about 6 months and have only run into two problems. The amp to guitar cable just stopped working. Not too big of a deal, I ended up just buying a Monster brand cable 12ft for about $18 including shipping from Amazon and have been outstandingly pleased with the quality. The only other issue has been the cheap quality of the tremelo bar as it broke off inside of my bridge. This is a much harder fix, but this is a fairly minor issue once you start picking up more techinques on how to play (visit [...] it has like 300,000 free tabs and free video lessons on how to play... the DVD provided was okay but is eclipsed by this site). Other than that, this is a nice little guitar. The fretboard feels great (the intonation on the upper frets seem a bit off but I hear this is pretty normal anyway) and the strings given hold up well for a good sound. The tuning heads hold nicely as well (I had a week were I played bout 5-6 hours a day pretty hard and I only lost bout a quarter note on each string). Not too many options with the amp, but playing around with it some and the pick-up selector can give amazing sounds all things considering. If you are worried that this little amp can't get loud, fear not. For at home use with OverDrive on, you can bug quite a few people in your home more than likely at level 2 volume (I play a bit less than 1 typically) and it goes up to level 10 volume!

For the first electric guitar, I say it's pretty good, I played acoustic before but wanted to try something new so I bought this and so far it meets my expectations, the clean sounds good, the "distortion" is okay for strumming but I suggest to buy a pedal, which I did. So for starters this is GREAT!. We received this item in time for christmas. it is great quality at a great price with free shipping. my son uses it daily and it was a great gift.

It includes everything. And I mean everything that you might need. Its not even mentioned in the product description that a headset is also included! Which is totally what I needed as I play it for hours and hours and I should not be disturbing others. Amp is cool, its loud enough for home use. It has Bass and Treble effects as well which is very cool. A guitar stand is also included which makes it easy to keep the guitar when not in use.

I bought mine in 2004 when this package first hit the market. Still works great. The action (the space between the strings & fretboard) has held up well. The electronics have held up on mine, although the one I bought was made in Indonesia; not sure if they are still made there or in China.

Fender's newer, entry level Starcasters are an excellent choice for beginners. Well made with good features at a reasonable price. Don't be mislead by biased reviewers who most likely own small guitar shops and want you to spend 3 or 4 times the cost at their business. This guitar is a fine pick. A+."Fender Starcaster Strat and Accessory Pack, Candy Apple Red"

Customer Reviews

I bought one of these at an outlet store several months back. I finally got around to unboxing it today, and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I wanted something with a shorter scale length for my son, who will be turning four just after Christmas 2011. I'm a musician and play Fender basses and guitars, so I have some confidence in the brand. Most mini-guitars are junk, except for the ones marketed to musicians as "travel guitars," which are generally great but cost as much as real instruments. My goal here was something fairly cheap but playable. And that's tricky to find. But I believe this qualifies. "Fender Mini Strat Electric Guitar Starter Pack, Black"

I do however have two small complaints. It seems like everyone has either the red or starburst colors, so I opted for the midnight blue. Well, it's midnight alright. It's so dark, that you need a really bright light or sunlight just to be able to tell it's not black. And then it looks more of a dark purple than blue. My second complaint was a buzz from the 5th (A) string at the 6th and 7th frets. All the other strings played well, except this one at this location. I adjusted the neck three times and retuned the strings three times and now it seems to be fine.

If those had been included, I would have gotten 5 stars. It is also easy to play, very well.

Customer Reviews

Hated: The strap is garbage, The wammy bar causes the guitar to go insanely out of tune, for about 2 weeks the frets cut your hands to shreds, When using one pickup, the amp makes a really annoying buzzing sound, so use the second to bottom or top setting on the pickup selector switch. The guitar does also go out of tune fairly easy by itself.

Now onto the loved: EXTREMELY STURDY AND STRONG. My guitar was dropped by one of my friends onto a concrete floor and the only damage done was a small chip in the finish by the neck. Amp is fantastic for it's size. Loud enough to fill a gymnasium full of screaming students. The tuner is fantastic, and the picks are incredibly strong. Strings sound good and are strong. Extra strings are a good bonus, just make sure you put them on right.
